We Like His Tune, February 8, 2012 By This review is from: Samsung Stainless Steel Microwave SMH2117S Usually when making a purchase of this magnitude, I do exhaustive research online, in stores, and in Consumer Reports. This time, with Mrs. Spudman along, We went to one store, examined the microwaves, and bought this one. We had wanted a side-to-side carousel like the former Kenmore Elite's, but that feature is only available on a few models. After some hands on examination and online reading couresty of our salesperson, we decided on the Samsung SMH21175. I did achieve some piece of mind by reading aferwards that this model rates in the top five in the Consumer Reports annual buying guide.
I can't speak for longevity, but I can give my impressions of this model so far. First of all it is cavernous or at least appears to be so. Being designed with the controls lined up on the bottom may affect the volume of the inside.

Extremely disappointed "SE" or "5E" keypad problem, April 2, 2012 By Sean Do (CHESAPEAKE, VA, US) - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung Stainless Steel Microwave SMH2117S I bought this microwave based on the Consumer Reports product ratings and up until a couple of days ago I would have highly recommended it. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. I awoke to sounds of it beeping every few minutes and an error code of "SE". After a lot of research I have seen that this same code has appeared for a fair amount of others. Both the short and the long of it is that it can no longer be used with out spending good money after bad. I know that they don't make things now days to last a lifetime, but I would have hoped for it to last longer than less than 2 years. We are light users and I kept it very clean. I wish that I would have bought an extended warranty. I can only hope that I go the same way this did...quick and without warning and that someone would also say she was good while she lasted.

Only a few numbers on the display panel worked and finally only the number "3" worked and no programs, such as Popcorn, Defroster, etc. were operating.
Thank goodness for my organizational skills. I found our original sales receipt and found we had purchased the product with a four-year warranty! We went through our Samsung dealer and a kind serviceman from A & E Services (Sears) came and had to order a new door for us because the entire computer circuit had gone bad. If we had not purchased the extended warranty contract on this, we would have had to pay $269 for a new door! What's so mindboggling about this is that when we checked, Lowe's had put the very same microwave on sale for $299!!!! Now we have our new door on and all is well. We're keeping our fingers crossed this doesn't happen again, but are looking at purchasing extended warranties with our major purchases now. They just... Read more
